{"id":35788,"date":"2025-10-22T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog-staging.saatva-node-stage.tsc-starts-coding.com\/?p=35788"},"modified":"2025-10-22T09:30:39","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T13:30:39","slug":"noah-elliott-sleep-tips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saatva-node-stage.tsc-starts-coding.com\/blog\/noah-elliott-sleep-tips\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Paralympic Gold Medalist Noah Elliott on How Prioritizing Sleep Helps Him Crush the Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Noah Elliott is a two-time U.S. Paralympian and Paralympic Medalist, having won a gold medal in banked slalom and a bronze medal in snowboard cross at the&nbsp;PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He first learned about Para snowboarding through a camp he attended for children with cancer\u2014and he was motivated early on to pursue a professional athletic career by the U.S.&nbsp;Paralympian&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saatva-node-stage.tsc-starts-coding.com\/blog\/brenna-huckaby-sleep-tips\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Brenna Huckaby<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBrenna has inspired my career from the beginning,\u201d shares Elliott. \u201cShe was a great cancer mentor to me when I was finishing up my treatment and helped to answer all the questions I had about becoming an amputee as well as how to get into Para snowboarding.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elliott adds that \u201cit\u2019s been incredible to now share the journey and travel the world cheering each other on.\u201d The two now spend a lot of time on the road together, and \u201cshe has become like a sister to me,\u201d he says. \u201cWe share a lot of stories and experiences that I believe help both of us.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Something both Huckaby and Elliott know well? That a good night\u2019s sleep can have a positive impact on training and race day outcomes. \u201cGetting a good night\u2019s rest is key when it comes to mental clarity and energy for a race day or a training day,\u201d he notes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We chatted with Elliott, a Saatva ambassador, to learn more about what his nighttime routine and sleep setup look like, how he deals with jet lag when traveling for competition, and more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Noah Elliott\u2019s top sleep tips<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Have a wind-down routine<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After a long day of training or competing, Elliott makes sure to carve out time for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saatva-node-stage.tsc-starts-coding.com\/blog\/10-nighttime-activities-help-relax\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">relaxation before bed<\/a>. \u201cAfter a long day, I love to read a book and take time to reflect on my day or week,\u201d he says. \u201cSometimes, I goal-set during these times.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Create a peaceful bedroom setup<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI love having a peaceful environment and creating an outdoor living inside,\u201d says Elliott. So, he has both&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saatva-node-stage.tsc-starts-coding.com\/blog\/the-best-7-plants-to-improve-your-sleep\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">house plants<\/a>&nbsp;and home aquariums in his bedroom to promote peace and calm inside. \u201cOne of the aquariums sits next to the foot of my bed,\u201d he says. \u201cThis helps me always to take that time to watch the fish and rest.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cAfter a long day, I love to read a book and take time to reflect on my day or week. Combat jet lag strategically<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saatva-node-stage.tsc-starts-coding.com\/blog\/how-to-sleep-better-while-traveling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sleeping while traveling<\/a>, jet lag is the biggest factor for Elliott. \u201cI usually set the goal of having a coffee once I arrive at my new destination,\u201d he says. \u201cIf there\u2019s a chance, I\u2019ll use the bicycle in the gym or go for a walk to help my body get moving and start the acclimation process.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elliott adds that he often has a second coffee in the afternoon to try to stay awake so he can get a full night\u2019s rest. And because he often shares a hotel room with other teammates while on the road, he makes sure to unpack his suitcase to make the room feel more comfortable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Pack sleep essentials for plane rides<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Elliott notes most of his major World Cup competitions are across seas in Europe, which is a long way from North America.
