In fact, in Pinterest\u2019s 2023 trend report<\/a>, the company predicted that what\u2019s old will be new again, with searches for antique and vintage furniture way up. Forecasters have also noticed that thrifting has seen a substantial uptick in popularity<\/a> since the pandemic and the recent spike in inflation. That\u2019s why there\u2019s never been a better time to start thrifting furniture for your bedroom<\/a>, along with other decorative items that will bring secondhand charm to your sleep space. Thrifted furniture is usually affordable and is typically very well-made, explains Virginia Chamlee<\/a>, writer, artist, vintage expert, and author of the best-selling book, Big Thrift Energy<\/a>. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go with the flow<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Thrifting is all about being as flexible as possible, as Chamlee puts it, especially if you\u2019re searching for something specific. \u201cRather than looking for, say, a matching pair of two-drawer nightstands, look instead for two tables that could function in the same way,” she says. “This allows you to think more creatively when it comes time to decorate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spot high-quality materials<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

While some thrifted furniture pieces aren\u2019t exactly heirloom quality, there are some items that are extremely well-made. Chamlee says it\u2019s as simple as \u201clooking for nice materials,\u201d which can include marble, dark woods<\/a>, chrome, and Lucite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese are all materials that are expensive to work with and, therefore, generally only used on really well-made pieces,\u201d she says. \u201cIf you find something in one of these materials, chances are it will stand the test of time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thrifting, at times, requires a careful inspection and deeper dive. \u201cExamine items closely to ensure they are indeed well-kept and well-made,\u201d Chamlee advises.
